All quiet on Haifa Street - now that the American soldiers have gone

A year ago, Haifa Street was a name that inspired dread.

Vehicle carcasses littered the pavements - charred remnants of car bomb attacks on US and Iraqi security patrols. Gouges in the road from American rockets and insurgents' rocket-propelled grenades had turned the asphalt into a slalom course.
