Donald Trump’s representatives have warned that “malicious and inaccurate” political attacks are threatening the US property developer’s plans for a £1bn ($2bn, €1.4bn) golf resort in Aberdeenshire.

The Trump Organisation was reacting to Liberal Democrat calls for an independent inquiry after the Scottish government decided to “call in” the controversial scheme, meaning ministers will make the final decision.
