The head of Bolivia’s supreme court was sworn in as the country’s president on Thursday night, a development that could alleviate the social tensions that have paralysed the country in recent weeks.
The appointment of Eduardo Rodriguez, who will serve as an interim president until fresh elections are held, was a key demand by anti-government protestors, who have set up more than 90 roadblocks across the country. Violent clashed with troops on Thursday left one demonstrator dead.
