Beijing probes Shanghai pension scandal

An unfolding scandal in Shanghai has assumed a national political dimension after central authorities in Beijing despatched an investigative team to probe misuse of the city’s billion-dollar pension fund.

The investigators’ arrival coincided with the removal of one of the city’s 19 district governors, Qin Yu, in what local media, with unusual frankness, have called the biggest scandal in Shanghai in decades.
