Shanghai’s fall dents Japanese optimism

The worst plunge in Shanghai equities in more than a year on Monday pulled the rest of the region’s stock markets lower.

Investor optimism over a rare change in Japan’s government was not strong enough to keep the benchmark Nikkei 225 index in positive territory.
