Company profile: Rehabilitation plans for bankrupt steel mill

Kremikovtzi, Bulgaria’s biggest steel mill, used to belch clouds of brown smoke across the capital, obscuring the view of the mountains beyond.

In its communist-era heyday, the steelmaker employed more than 12,000 workers and produced over 2.4m tonnes of steel a year, contributing about 2 per cent of the country’s gross domestic product.
