The Short View: European economy

The credit crisis has produced some surprising winners and losers. Even though the problems for the world credit markets emanate from the US, the biggest winner, thus far, has been the US while Europe has been the greatest loser.

Following this week’s news that the German economy is contracting, Thursday produced the revelation that the US economy grew at an annual pace of 3.3 per cent in the second quarter, much faster than previously thought.
