Ministers defend new FSA powers

The economy will not suffer if new legislation allowing bankers’ bonus deals to be ripped up by the regulator drives “reckless” individuals from the City to other countries, says the government.

Ministers took to the airwaves to defend proposals in the financial services bill, published on Thursday, to allow the Financial Services Authority to cancel retrospectively new remuneration contracts.
