Apple and Intel lift Imagination stakes

A small UK chip designer has become so vital to some of the world’s top technology companies that Intel and Apple have been buying stakes in it to safeguard the future of their products.

Imagination Technologies, a semiconductor designer worth £240m and based in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire, has seen the US duo snap up shares in the past six months. The UK group designs chips to power graphics in smartphones, laptops and portable music devices.
