Demand drop threatens UK recycling policies

Plunging commodity prices have cut demand for recycled materials, raising fears that councils and consumers will abandon environmentally friendly policies.

The Environment Agency said on Friday that 56 councils applied in the past three weeks to stockpile waste that could no longer be profitably recycled.
