A previously unknown bronze by the Italian sculptor Antico, famed for producing the most opulent and technically flawless bronzes of the early renaissance, has been discovered in the collection of the Duke of Bedford, in Woburn Abbey.
“Seated Nymph”, a 19.5cm gilded and silvered figure, comes as vivid proof that even well known and thoroughly studied collections still have treasures to reveal to the knowledgeable and eagle-eyed. It will be offered for sale at Sotheby’s London on December 8.
