The debate about man’s interaction with the environment has led to some bold claims, but to say that technology alone, and telecoms technology in particular, can bring a nation’s environmental impact back to sustainable levels must rank as one of the most audacious yet.

But that was the claim made last year at the Bali Summit by Telstra, Australia’s largest telecoms company.
