London social housing targets criticised

Boris Johnson’s mayoral administration has accused the government of political opportunism after ministers quietly slashed their social housing targets for London by 46,000 homes.

The government sought to win plaudits earlier this month after Gordon Brown promised £1.5bn for 20,000 new social homes across the UK as the centrepiece of his “Building Britain’s Future” policy relaunch.
