Violence mars Macedonia poll

Violence and vote tampering marred Macedonia’s parliamentary elections on Sunday as ethnic Albanian parties battled for leverage over the Balkan country’s next inter-ethnic government.

International election monitors said they had withdrawn from 30 polling stations in ethnic Albanian areas by midway through the voting day because of securtiy fears, while gunfire pierced the air in numerous villages.
