The New York Times said it has no current plans to shut down the Boston Globe after the Boston newspaper labour union members voted against a pay cut package.

After reaching an impasse, the Times said late on Monday evening that it would cut the salaries of Boston Globe workers by 23 per cent by next week, expecting to save about $10m from its largest union and another $10m from employees belonging to other unions.
