Bulent Bulgurlu, the chief executive of Koç Holding, Turkey’s biggest industrial group, is enthusiastic about a novel machine made by its Arcelik domestic appliance subsidiary. Retailing for about $200, the machine makes cups of “perfect” Turkish coffee.

“This is a device that uses some special mechanisms to boil the water and treat the coffee in such a way that when you taste it you know you are drinking Turkish coffee, not Italian coffee,” says Mr Bulgurlu during a visit to London.
