Pakistan’s ruling coalition pledged on Thursday to impeach President Pervez Musharraf, in the clearest challenge yet to the authority of the country’s pro-US ruler.
The move has deepened concerns about Pakistan’s political stability, and the reaction of senior generals in the coming days to a legal challenge to the former head of the military will be crucial. The country has been ruled by the military for more than half of its 61-year existence as an independent state.
