Telefónica boosted by Latin America sales

Telefónica on Wednesday unveiled a 10 per cent year-on-year rise in first-quarter net profits, as growth in Latin America and cost controls helped offset weakness in Spain and negative currency factors.

The Spanish company, among the world’s largest telephony operators, said net profits for the three months to the end of March were €1.69bn, compared with €1.54bn a year ago.
