Last year, Maryam Tabukh, a 24-year-old Moroccan woman, left behind a clothing factory job in her home town of Tangiers in search of a better life in Spain with her husband.

But no one would hire her, and her husband – who had found work as a security guard in Madrid – has now lost his job as well.
