Bond market faces familiar problems

The relief rally prompted by the US Treasury’s blockbuster rescue of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac fizzled out on Tuesday as equity and bond market investors shifted their attention to the broad problems still facing the US economy.

Concerns also surfaced around the fate of Lehman Brothers, providing a painful reminder of the stresses in the financial system beyond the government sponsored enterprises.
