Dennis Nickson: Union clock-watcher blooms into workplace fashionista

Professor Dennis Nickson, head of the department of human resource management at Strathclyde University’s business school, is one of the team of researchers who coined the term “aesthetic labour”.

This refers to the growing propensity for employers in the service sector – such as managers of shops, bars and hotels – to hire people who best reflect a company’s image and also appeal to customers.
