Webis aims to use home advantage

While many Isle of Man-based betting groups are from overseas, there is also a growing band of indigenous start-ups. Webis Holdings, which operates the betinternet brand, is one. It was founded by investors including Jim Mellon, the millionaire financier, who lives on the island.

Burnbrae, a vehicle owned by Mr Mellon’s trust, still owns 53 per cent of Webis, but it floated on Aim in 2000.
