Chavez accuses US in Colombian rebel dispute

CARACAS, Venezuela (Reuters) - January 23 2004

Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez accused the United States on Sunday of masterminding a Colombian operation that seized a Marxist guerrilla leader from Caracas last month.

Chavez threatened to freeze relations with Colombia, an ally of the United States, and cut trade to a minimum if Bogota does not apologize for violating Venezuela’s sovereignty by kidnapping Colombian FARC rebel leader Rodrigo Granda from Caracas.
