Upmarket stores prosper over Christmas period

Upmarket department stores appear to have had a prosperous Christmas and new year, with some of the UK's most exclusive stores delivering sparkling trading numbers over the season.

Liberty, Selfridges, Harvey Nichols and Harrods all delivered industry-beating figures over Christmas as shoppers opted for destination stores rather than the run-of-the-mill high street.
