Retailers stand out as Footsie falls again

Retail stocks outperformed as the London market suffered another severe downward lurch Wednesday.

Kingfisher, owner of the B&Q DIY chain, was the stand-out feature. Its shares improved 1.5 per cent to 254p in trading volume three times the daily average amid talk it could be the next retailer to receive a bid from a private equity house.
