Crédit Agricole leads gains in European financials

European stocks reversed early losses as financials rallied strongly in thin trade following positive growth data from the US.

Crédit Agricole led the banking sector rally, jumping 8.9 per cent to €14.39, in spite of posting a 94 per cent drop in quarterly profit and announcing €1.1bn of writedowns linked to monoline bond insurers and the credit crisis.
