M&B in limelight as FTSE closes at 6½ year high

Mitchells & Butlers was in focus yesterday as the FTSE 100 closed at its highest level since September 2000.

Shares in the pub operator gained 1 per cent to a record high of 802p on hopes that it would join the FTSE 100 later this week replacing Scottish Power, which is being removed from the index ahead of its takeover by Spain’s Iberdrola.
