Communist likely to be Nepal PM

An alliance of Nepali political parties has backed Madhav Kumar Nepal, a senior leader of the Communist Party of Nepal (United Marxist Leninist), to become the Himalayan nation’s next prime minister.

The support of 350 lawmakers from 22 political parties means Mr Nepal is likely to replace Maoist leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal as premier after his resignation two weeks ago.
