Green chemistry: Companies see benefits of ‘friendlier’ formulas

California’s Green Chemistry Initiative means that from next year, companies selling products in the state will be required to identify specific chemicals in those products and reduce or eliminate any that are harmful.

While regulators are partly responsible for advancing the “green chemistry” agenda, companies are also seeing benefits in reformulating products to use materials that are less toxic and damaging to the environment.
