Al-Qaeda operative admits planning 9/11

Khaled Sheikh Mohammed, the senior al-Qaeda operative being held at Guantánamo Bay, has claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks in the US and the beheading of a Wall Street Journal reporter.

Mr Mohammed was brought before a military panel on Saturday to determine whether he was an enemy combatant. According to the transcript of the proceedings released by the Pentagon, he claimed responsibility for planning more than 30 alleged plots.
