Kerviel 'invented contracts in quest for bonus'

Jérôme Kerviel, the trader at the centre of the Société Générale scandal, had previously been the subject of internal investigations in his department, French investigators said yesterday.

However, each time Mr Kerviel, 31, was allowed to continue in his job because he had produced fictional contracts showing counterparties that had hedged his positions.
