Blair confirms support for 2006 pull-out from Iraq

Tony Blair, the prime minister, and John Reid, defence secretary, confirmed on Monday that British troops could withdraw from Iraq by the end of next year. Their statements follow remarks at the weekend by Jalal Talabani, the Iraqi president.

Mr Blair said: “I think it’s entirely reasonable to talk about the possibility of withdrawal of troops next year but it’s got to be always conditioned by the fact that we withdraw when the job is done.”
