Asda chief hits out at rash strategy

Retailers risk wrecking their businesses with a rash of pre-Christmas sales activity, according to Andy Bond, chief executive of Asda.

With Tesco set to launch an unprecedented pre-Christmas sale Friday and Marks and Spencer having held two “20 per cent off” days in the past month, his comments on discounting set Mr Bond’s supermarket chain apart from some of his biggest rivals.
