Beijing ignores currency demands from G7

China yesterday ignored demands from finance ministers of the Group of Seven industrialised countries that it immediately adopt a more flexible currency regime.

At a weekend meeting in Washington, ministers from all G7 member countries except Japan backed a US call for immediate action from Beijing. The communiqué for the meeting called for “more flexibility in exchange rates”, a message that officials said was aimed directly at China.
