Women binge drinkers double in number

The number of female British binge drinkers almost doubled over the past decade, as greater financial freedom among women brings their alcohol consumption closer into line with men.

A report from the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, published on Wednesday, found 15 per cent of women drank excessively in 2006, compared to 8 per cent in 1998.
