Credit crunch in the US likely to last 'many months'

The credit squeeze in the US economy will persist for many months and its peak impact on economic activity could be yet to come, Gary Stern, the president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis, has told the Financial Times.

"I do not think that the headwinds have diminished," Mr Stern said. "If anything, I think that they are picking up a little steam."
