Housing: Volatility haunts global housing markets

On a tour of Europe this month to promote his memoirs, Alan Greenspan identified the US housing boom as a bubble and described the property market in two dozen other countries as bubbles too.

The former US Federal Reserve chief’s comments may seem unsurprising given the spectacular growth in global housing market prices over the past decade. This has seen record price rises in many advanced economies, with the exception of Germany and Japan.
