The BBC’s plans to create with ITV and BT a “next-generation Freeview” will face regulators’ scrutiny this week as the broadcasters seek to put the collapse of Project Kangaroo behind them.
Kangaroo, an internet television joint venture between ITV, Channel 4 and BBC Worldwide, the corporation’s commercial division, was blocked by the Competition Commission last month. The proposed “one-stop shop” for the public-service broadcasters’ online programming presented too great a threat to competition in the video on-demand market, the regulator said.
