Ruling puts BCE deal in jeopardy

BCE’s shares fell sharply on Thursday after an unexpected court victory by the Canadian telephone company’s bondholders put its pending C$52bn (US$52.8bn) buy-out deal in jeopardy.

Canada’s Quebec Court of Appeal ruled on Wednesday that BCE did not adequately prove that its deal to be bought by a group of private equity investors was fair to bondholders.
