Plan to ease media rules draws industry criticism

A sweeping plan to loosen restrictions on Europeantelevision advertising will be launched today by the European Commission as part of an overhaul of European Union broadcasting rules.

Under the shake-up, tele-vision producers and broadcasters could tap into the lucrative world of product placement and have more flexibility on the timing of commercial breaks.
