Purnell outlines ‘jobs guarantee’ scheme

Unemployed young people could be forced to take up training or community jobs, the work and pensions secretary suggested on Thursday, as he outlined his vision for a “revolution” in welfare reform.

James Purnell advocated “calling the bluff” of the work-shy by compelling them to take up a “jobs guarantee” from government, saying it was a step to creating a more “proactive” welfare system.
