Tony Blair will on Friday fly to Ankara to reassure Turkey that its path to the European Union remains open, just as European leaders apply the brakes to the club’s enlargement.

The British prime minister, a supporter of Turkey, will insist that a fully reformed country can look forward to a European future if it resolves its trade dispute with Cyprus.
