Brown to urge cut in EU financial services red tape

Britain will today urge the European Union to tear up laws that fail to deliver ben-efits to the financial services industry, urging member states to back a lighter regulatory approach.

Gordon Brown, chancellor of the exchequer, will tell his EU colleagues at a meeting in Luxembourg that he wants the European Commission to find and remove existing legislation that is hindering the development of a single market.
