The reappointment of Alistair Darling as transport secretary is good news. He understands the brief and has produced a more coherent transport strategy than we have had for decades.
It is now about delivery. But with demand high for nearly all modes of transport - and with the infrastructure lagging behind due to a generation of under-investment - the government is faced with congestion on the roads, in the air and on the railways. And this is set to increase.
