China tightens safety rules for toys

Inspection authorities in China’s southern Guangdong province have begun to enforce toy safety reporting standards stricter than those required by the EU, causing industry executives to fear China may be over-reacting to recalls in the US.

The new reporting requirement, which came into effect last week, highlights the Chinese government’s increasingly stringent response to safety issues surrounding a widening range of China-made exports, from pet food to toothpaste.
