Transcript intercepts weigh on Bolton's posting

The National Security Agency has recommended giving transcripts of intercepted conversations mentioning US officials to the Senate committee considering John Bolton's nomination as ambassador to the United Nations.

The National Security Agency sent the intercepts to John Negroponte, the director of national intelligence, with a recommendation that he release them to the Senate foreign relations committee, according to a congressional aide and a source close to the committee. It is not clear whether Mr Negroponte will do so.
