Industrial design: Concrete may be recession chic but it doesn’t come cheap

Concrete cuffs are not some new Mafia method for disposing of rivals but an example of a growing movement in jewellery design and fabrication towards techniques and materials from the world of industry.

The idea of miniaturising large-scale, industrially-engineered objects into a version handmade by craftsmen, and even mixing the original materials with precious metals and stones, has a resonance reflected in a number of collections at Basel.
