Brussels attempts to keep Serbia on the EU track

Serbia was yesterday offered speedy progress to European Union membership if voters "leave their nationalist past behind" in Sunday's crucial elections.

Olli Rehn, EU enlargement commissioner, said the country had a strong European future and he was "reasonably confident" that "democratic leaders" would emerge victorious from the poll.
