Flight of cash into money market funds

Investors are pouring their cash into money market funds at a record rate as they seek a safe harbour from the credit turmoil.

Money market mutual fund assets rose $19.34bn to a record $3,428bn for the week ending February 27, according to the Investment Company Institute. Money market funds have risen from $2,763bn at the end of August, and $2,399bn a year ago.
