The Intel probe

The European Commission's probe into alleged abuses by the world's largest chipmaker began in 2000, after a complaint filed by Intel's rival Advanced Micro Devices.

The investigation was almost abandoned in 2002, but gathered steam again two years ago when the Commission requested fresh information from Intel and other market players.
